Kansas take the belt

Kansas beat Texas Tech 55–45 at home to start reign 81 of the Women's College Basketball belt, the 1st for the program.

Texas Tech had held it since November 27, 1998, with 14 defenses over 57 days.

Kansas held it for 24 days and 5 defenses, then lost it to Iowa State on February 16, 1999.
